New For THE 2023 Fishing Year

Hello Anglers!

Welcome to our 2023 SAWT season!  We are so excited to get out on the water.  Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey.  The participation was great, and the changes being made reflect the majority.

1.  AFTER MANY MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS, WE HAVE DECIDED TO STAY WITH THE PICTURE FORMAT FOR OUR 2023 SEASON!  We will continue to explore the MyCatch option for the future but will continue with the picture format for 2023.

2.  Due to increasing fees with banking, insurance, etc., the SAWT membership fee is increasing to $25.00 per angler.

3.  Point system changes for 2023 will be that points will only be awarded to the captain and not each individual angler.   In order to win team of the year, you will have to fish all 3 tournaments, and points will remain with the captain of their boat, The captain has the choice of who their partner will be.

4.  Also new for 2023, as per your responses on the survey, we will host a final shootout tournament for the boat.  Top 20 teams from the 3 tournaments per the point system, will be invited to the shootout tournament.   Team of the year will still be awarded to the top team of the year; however, the boat will be the grand prize for the shootout tournament.  More to come on the shootout tournament.

5.  All tournaments will be capped at 80 teams with 2 people per team in each boat.  When registration is open, get yours in as soon as possible to ensure your spot.

6.  Boat registration numbers will be mandatory on your SAWT registration this year for our insurance purposes.

7.  We will be looking for extra volunteers this year.  Volunteering is an imperative part of our organization.  The executive wants to thank all our volunteers by offering you the greatest thank you ever.  For every tournament day you volunteer, you will get one entry into our year end volunteer grand prize.

Stay tuned for the official rules and the entry form to be added to the SAWT website.

PICTURE TOURNAMENT SCORING PHOTOS

MEASURING A FISH

CATCH/RELEASE PICTURES

TAKING THE PICTURE

  •  Only Walleye, Sauger and Saugeye are eligible for measuring.
  • All fish will be measured in millimeters (mm) and translated to a pound (lb.) measurement for the purpose of calculating heaviest fish and total weight of all fish entered.
  • All measuring boards will be provided by SAWT and one will be given to each team during boat inspection along with all other necessary paperwork.  All fish are to be measured with the left side of the fish facing up (belly towards the angler). The full fish must be visible in the entire picture.
  •  Measured fish can be 45cm or larger when measured with their mouths closed or open and tails pinched or not pinched. In the event a photo designates a fish to be scored is judged by SAWT to be un-scorable, a replacement fish will not be allowed.

TAKING THE PICTURE

CATCH/RELEASE PICTURES

TAKING THE PICTURE

  •  While the fish is being held on the ruler, a "SCORING" photo must be taken of the fish which clearly shows the overall length of the fish.
  • The HEAD and TAIL of the fish must be included and shown clearly.
  • The photograph must be taken of the left side of the fish only.
  •  A photo that does not show the list of qualifications above WILL NOT BE SCORED.
  • More than one attempt to get a valid scoring photo is allowed.
  • The fish must then be immediately released back into the water.
  • Any fish that appears to have been mangled, mashed, mauled, or otherwise altered will be credited only at the discretion of SAWT officials and may result in team disqualification for the day or the event.

CATCH/RELEASE PICTURES

  • In the instance when two or more fish are caught at the same time, the Catch-Picture-Release process requires that one fish be measured, photographed, and released as quickly as possible before the next fish can be processed.
  • Fish may not be placed in the live-well to process pictures of two fish caught at the same time.
  • We recommend using a playing card as a photo marker when taking your pictures.  It is also a great way to ensure you do not delete an entry by mistake when preparing your pictures for submission.  Use a different card for each picture submission.
